If your head has the natural bounce of luscious curls, your daily care routine can sometimes be challenging, especially on those out-of-control days.

When it comes to hairstyling in Perth, we have some of the best techniques to help embrace your locks and keep them looking their best.

How Do I Care for My Ringlets and Curls?

No doubt you’ll have been given all sorts of tips for taking care for your locks – however, whatever techniques are suggested, simplicity is the key. When you have a tangly mane full of ringlets and waves, the best way you can care for it yourself is using shampoo, conditioner and the occasional treatment.

One of our most important recommendations is that you only wash and put moisture into your strands once a week. While this may go against the grain of everything you have been taught, you will find that you better manage it this way.

Take Away or Embrace Your Frizz

If you have the natural waves, you may find yourself annoyed on occasion about the frizz that gets notably worse during misty rain and hot days. People are always trying to get rid of it and continually seeking ways to do that.

However, have you thought about embracing it? Many don’t realise that it’s part of your hair’s personality, giving it the shape and individuality that characterises it. The best way to embrace it is to ensure you get the proper cut for the volume.

Curly Girl Method

This process is a new way of embracing your springy coils and loose waves.

The genius behind it all comes from expert Lorraine Massey. Her aim is to amp up the look and feel of natural curls and get the maximum potential out of them.

While there is a whole book devoted to this method, the basics include:

Step 0: Final “Reset” Wash

Wash with a sulphate-filled shampoo.

Step 1: Cleanse

Wash your locks with a sulphate-free shampoo and massage for sixty seconds before rinsing.

Step 2: Condition

Take a handful of conditioner and scrunch throughout your hair until it’s thoroughly soaked. Then detangle with a wide-tooth comb or fingers. Rinse out all a small amount.

Step 3: Style

While it’s still really wet, scrunch and rake a palmful of gel into your tips.

Step 4: Dry

To remove excess water, cup and scrunch it with a cotton T-shirt, then let it air dry. Once completely dry, get rid of the crunchy gel coating by scrunching it with your hands.

Step 5: Keep the Process Going

Every time you get your hair wet, repeat steps 1-4 every time.

Learning to love and appreciate the beauty in every strand will take time, but once you have a style and routine that you love and works for you, your confidence in your style will soon grow.

Whether you choose to use the Curly Girl method or take a simple approach and run with the frizz, you’ve gotta own it!
